Print Reference Resources

The Salem Public Library offers a collection of print Reference Books that must be used in-house.  The books are arranged by subject, according to the Dewey Decimal System, and are located on the mezzanine level.  Online library catalogs are available to assist in searching for materials by title, author, subject, or keyword.  Reference assistance is available at the Technology counter and also at the main Circulation counter.

Digital Services

Library users may also choose to research subjects online through a variety of collections available on the internet.  The following websites offer library cardholders the opportunity to read, download, or print information from valid, trusted sources.  Content is available from newspapers, magazines, journals, and digital reference books.

Users may choose to view these collections in the library or from a location where there is internet access, such as home, office or wi-fi hot spot.  For research sources that offer access remotely (outside the library) you will be prompted to enter the number located on the back of your Roanoke Valley library card as shown below by the black arrow (no spaces).
