Volunteers

The Salem Public Library strives to supply popular and/or educational materials for all age groups and endeavors to be the information center for the citizens of Salem. Library volunteers help us enhance and extend the services we deliver to the Salem community.

On-going Volunteer needs:
  1. "Read" shelves: Volunteer will read fiction or nonfiction shelves, making sure books are in correct order. The volunteer must have a good understanding of the Dewey Decimal System.
  2. Reshelve books and other materials: Volunteer will shelve fiction or non-fiction; read shelves to make sure books are in correct order and to find items which have been shelved incorrectly. Straighten shelves. The Volunteer must have a good understanding of the Dewey Decimal System.
Special Volunteer needs:

Summer reading program aides: Teenage volunteers ages 12 and up to help set up for programs, register participants, help children with craft activities, and clean up after programs.
Minimum age: 12 years

If you are interested in volunteering pick up a Volunteer Application at the library or download a copy of the application from this site and drop it off at the library. A few days after we receive your application, a staff member will call and schedule an interview. We ask that volunteers be willing to commit to working 2 to 4 hours per week for at least 6 months. Some volunteer postions require a fixed schedule, others may be more flexible.

Get Acrobat ReaderThe volunteer applications are Adobe Acrobat® PDF files. The software is free and can be downloaded by clicking on the Acrobat Reader logo or visiting adobe.com. Documents below open in a new browser window.
